Monabat Kari Side Table – (Iranian Wood Carving Side Table)
The story of this work of art began when I was thinking of creating a Monabat Kari side table, so I chose a piece of walnut wood and cut it to the required size. For this Iranian wood carving side table, I considered original Persian designs. Then I started wood carving. Because the work had several parts, it took a long time. After finishing the wood carving, I went to the carpenter to glue the pieces together. After this step, I threw the glass on the screen and finally made the Wooden side table.

Monabat Kari is a branch of wood industry that is considered an artistic technique. It involves carving on wood, and a woodcarver is someone who does the carving on the wood. In Iran, it has a long history. Currently, this art is prevalent all over Iran with cities like Golpayegan, Esfahan, Shiraz, Abade, Malayer, Shahrod, etc., being the leaders.
Who is the creator of this artwork?
Mohammad Mehdi Tavakol (the creator of this Iranian wood carving tableau (Light in darkness)) was born in Esfahan, Golpayegan, on March 22nd, 1961. Since he had such a passion for art, in 1975, he became familiar with the art of Monabat Kari (wood carving).
He is delighted to have shared and extended his long-lasting experience and expertise in this field with inventing a new style of wood carving called Monabat Gereh (Knot Carving). At the Festival of New Art Ideas held in Tehran, Of the 1182 artworks, the Monabat Gereh (created by Mohammad Mehdi Tavakol) won the top rank. He has participated in numerous local and international exhibitions. Furthermore, He has been awarded at various festivals.
