How to transfer a pattern from paper to wood for wood carving
In the previous article, we introduced the best wood for wood carving. Now, we are going to explain that how to transfer a pattern from paper to wood for wood carving. Carving on wood is done in two ways, one is to make the desired design appear prominent on the wood, and the other is to engrave the design (of course in accordance with the design) on wood; usually, geometric designs follow this method. The woodcarver can transfer a design from paper to wood in several ways, which are as follows.
Table of contents
Transferring the design by carbon paper
In this method, first, we put the carbon paper on the desired wood, then we put the design on the carbon paper and draw on the drawing lines with a pencil gently; when the carbon paper is removed, the design is transferred to the wood. This method has many applications in woodcarving.
Transfer the design onto the wood directly
In this method, the woodcarver must be completely proficient in the design and draw the design directly on the wood. The woodcarver should draw the design symmetrically perfectly on the wood. This is the easiest method as long as the woodcarver knows the design perfectly.
Transfer a pattern from paper to wood by photocopy method
In this method, a photocopy of the design is prepared and it is glued to the desired wood, then they start carving from the attached design. This method takes less time.
Transferring the design by the needle method
In this method, the painting is drawn on paper, then the drawing lines are marked with a round needle on the cut point, then some soot is poured into a thin sock, and the design is placed on the wood. The design is dotted on the wood. This method is very time-consuming and is not widely used today. In addition, as the hand is drawn on the lines, the lines are cleared.
Transfer the design by oiling the paper
In this method of transfer the pattern from paper to wood for wood carving, the design is drawn on sewing paper and then impregnated with oil. Then they put the design on the wood and draw on the lines with a pencil. In this way, the design is transferred to the wood. This method is the most used.
